Channahon mayor denies credit card misuse

CHANNAHON — Village President Joe Cook this week defended his use of a village credit card and criticized a published report that said he used it to buy expensive dinners and trips over a four-year period.

Cook said most of the $ 36,000 worth of charges on his card were incurred by village trustees and staff for conferences and other village business. The charges were not for personal expenses, he said.

“My credit card was the default credit card of much of the village staff,” Cook said at Monday night’s board meeting.

Men Use Credit Card Stolen From Longhorn Steakhouse Employee

Martin County Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying two men who used a stolen credit card to purchase almost $ 700 worth of electronics and other items.The theft occurred Sept. 27 outside the Longhorn Steakhouse in Jensen Beach.Detectives said a purse was stolen from an employee’s vehicle parked at the restaurant. Later that evening, the victim’s credit card was used at a nearby Target.The total amount of merchandise bought with the stolen card was $ 689.Anyone who can identify the two men from surveillance images at the Target are asked to call detectives at 772-220-7060.
